Farry M. "Fred" Conway, an Irish immigrant who was known in local religious and cultural circles, died Wednesday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. He was 86.
Born in Ballycroy, County Mayo, Ireland, Mr. Conway was one of 13 children. After immigrating to the United States, he settled in Buffalo in 1949, beginning a long career as a union carpenter. During the 1950s and 1960s, he worked on many local housing and commercial developments, before joining the New York State Office of General Services maintenance team at the Donovan and Mahoney state office buildings in downtown Buffalo.

New York State Office of General Services Acting Commissioner Carla Chiaro on Monday announced the closing of the sale of the Rochester Armory last week.
Located at 145 Culver Road, the c. 1916 structure was sold last year to Whitney Baird Associates LLC for $1.47 million. The developer has said the building will be used for commercial and office space.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal filed a formal objection Friday with a New York agency responsible for issuing a key permit for a proposed liquefied natural gas facility in Long Island Sound.
In documents filed with the New York Office of General Services, Blumenthal argued the $700 million proposal to anchor an LNG facility near the middle of the Sound poses unacceptable risks for both New York and Connecticut.

Researcher Mary B. Young concluded that governments need to speed their efforts to prepare a new generation of leaders, as a concentrated wave of retirements is expected. State and local government officials told the researchers that future leaders need to develop skills and knowledge outside their own department and at the enterprise level, and they must develop a broad network of relationships to be successful. They need to understand how other departments are connected to their own and the challenges faced at the executive level -- the big picture, in other words. New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that his office is suing a New York foreclosure company for his charging illegal up-front fees and engaging in consumer fraud. The company, American Modification Agency, markets its services to homeowners facing foreclosure by claiming that it can save their homes, but often fails to provide the services.
The New York Attorney General's Office served a notice of intent to sue on American Modification Agency, Inc. ("Amerimod") and its owner and President Salvatore Pane, Jr. Amerimod is based in Uniondale, NY and apparently operates in all 50 states, servicing thousands of consumers nationwide.
