The Coast Guard proposes to establish seven temporary safety zones for swim events within the Captain of the Port (COTP) New York Zone. These proposed zones will be established on the navigable waters of the Hudson River, East River, Upper New York Bay and Lower New York Bay. These temporary safety zones are necessary to protect the maritime public and event participants from the hazards associated with these events. Persons and vessels are prohibited from entering into, transiting through, mooring, or anchoring within the safety zones unless authorized by the COTP New York or the designated representative.

Over Thanksgiving break I visited New York City. I'd seen the movies where the streets are happy, I'd heard the songs that hundreds of people wrote and sung about how special New York was, and for the past couple months I'd been prepped for how different New York was. When asked to comment on New York, my parents response was usually "It's like no other place in the world." Was this a place where dreams would be fulfilled, hopes would be realized and the sun would shine brighter? Unfortunately, the answer was no. After circulating the block a couple of times, trying to ask for help from non-responsive city workers, we found a parking area. Peggy Accordino, director of risk management for National Financial Partners Corp, personifies risk management in America's greatest city, New York. In 1976, Accordino applied for a position with a Rochester, New York-area insurance broker. Accordino accepted the position of director of risk management understanding that she would be building a comprehensive risk management program from scratch. Since the mid-1980s, when RIMS helped her find a new job and complete her ARM, Accordino has been an especially active member. But she is most proud of RIMS work supporting future risk professionals. The New York Chapter is a cornerstone of the Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program, of which Accordino is vice chair, sponsoring a student and the Sunday Brunch at the RIMS Conference.

It was a testy affair Wednesday night in the Bronx as the Yankees beat the Tigers, 9-5, in a game marked by several inside pitches and warnings issued to both benches.
