NEW YORK | A person with knowledge of the situation says the New York Mets have hired Terry Collins as their manager.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because the two sides were still working on terms of the contract. An announcement is expected early in the week.

The roster moves continued for the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday as the New York Mets recalled infielder Ruben Tejada and outfielder Fernando Martinez.
Before the Mets' game in Philadelphia, manager Jerry Manuel announced that Tejada would be the team's starting second baseman with Luis Castillo going to the bench. Martinez will platoon in right field with Jeff Francoeur.

Despite repeated insistence that their real estate business has nothing to do with their baseball operations and neither has anything to do with swindler Bernie Madoff, the owners of Great Neck- based Sterling Equities have used the New York Mets to raise billions and purchase property throughout the country. And a lawsuit against them says Madoff money was entwined in both.
Sterling American Property, the investment arm of Sterling Equities, has formed and operated five investment funds that have acquired over $4.6 billion of real estate and real estate related assets. The property Sterling controls includes more than 29,000 residential units, 9.2 million square feet of commercial space and more than $1 billion in mortgage notes, according to its website.
