A cooperative effort is helping Action-Housing Inc. rehabilitate three apartment buildings that will provide affordable housing for local residents.
The nonprofit organization received help from the Bank of New York Mellon, the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development and the Oppenheimer Co. Inc. of Minneapolis, among others, in a loan refinance arrangement that is bringing $1.2 million in improvements to properties in McKeesport, Pitcairn and Wilmerding.

In a signal of the influence the former New York transportation expert has gained in less than two years as commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, Gov. M. Jodi Rell has proposed that most business development agencies be placed under McDonald's watch, including a new Connecticut Economic Innovations Authority that would combine the existing Connecticut Development Authority and Connecticut Innovations Inc. DECD holds about $1.4 billion in active investments in enterprises in the state and says that amount has been used as leverage to raise an additional $2.7 billion from other sources of funding.
