Cheektowaga's proposed $84.7 million budget for 2011, up 2.94 percent from this year, has spending increases to cover new health insurance and pension costs, the police and courts building renovation, and storm sewer fixes intended to ease flooding problems.
The plan to add new storm sewers -- along Dingens Street and around Southgate Road -- will cost $2.4 million. Supervisor Mary Holtz, who developed the budget, wants to take advantage of low interest rates -- about 3 percent -- and borrow for the projects now, said Brian Krause, finance director.

Stair replacement at the Southgate Crossing began Monday, and will continue throughout the summer after a new pedestrian bridge is installed.
