A proposed lighting plan for the New River Gorge Bridge would cost between $4 million and $6 million to install, and would ideally be complete in time to open as part of West Virginia's 150th birthday celebration June 20, 2013.
But the project will not move forward at all until public sentiment for or against the lighting proposal is gauged through an online poll being conducted through the end of November by the state Division of Transportation.

* The U.S. Postal Service honors the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayette County with a new 2011 Priority Mail stamp at 1 p.m. Monday at the New River Gorge National River Canyon Rim Visitor Center, Fayetteville. Maple Ave.) One of the highest bridges in the United States, the New River Gorge Bridge features a 1,700-foot span that is the longest steel arch in the Western Hemisphere. FAYETTEVILLE - More than 400 jumpers are registered to parachute off the New River Gorge Bridge on Oct. 18, while 22 teams of climbers will rappel from its sides.
