Church to hold talk on Zen Buddhism NEW HAVEN- The First Church of Christ in New Haven (Center Church on-the-Green) will continue its discussion of world religions at noon Sunday with a talk on Zen Buddhism by the Rev. Meikyo Heather Scobie of New Haven, a Rinzai Zen Buddhist priest.
OGDEN (AP) -- Homebuilding in Utah has slowed to a crawl this year, but demand for new places of worship continues to flourish in the face of economic downturn. For the state's leading denomination, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, new buildings are a natural outgrowth of being one of the world's fastest-growing religions.
A city mosque, which already has committed time and money to improving the physical condition of its neighborhood, has put together an educational component to reach out to Greater New Haven residents. Jimmy Jones, an associate professor of world religions at Manhattanville College in New York, said Masjid Al-Islam, which is in the Dwight neighborhood, has started a joint venture with Cordoba University in Virginia to offer three courses this month and in March.

Yes, creationism should be taught in school. In a religious history class, certainly not in science class. It should be taught along with the history of the world's religions as they developed, going back to the Gilgamesh of the Persians, religions of the ancient Egyptians, the history of the Jewish religion (Old Testament of the Bible), the Christian religion (New Testament), the Islamic religion (Quran) along with the religions of the East with Buddhism, Hinduism and all the rest. And throw in the religions of the America's as found by the Conquistadors in the New World.

Not only that, his remarks "carried a special meaning of hurt" when "thousands of gay men and lesbians are serving their country in Iraq."
Davd Carrasco, world-renowned scholar of Mesoamerican religions, has spent a lot of time thinking about masks - not just the kind that hide our faces but also the masks that conceal our feelings, our identities, even our power. Carrasco travels from Cambridge, Mass. - where he's the inaugural Neil L. Rudenstine Professor of the Study of Latin America at Harvard University - to present a lecture in Santa Fe on the role of masks in what he calls the "cosmovision" of prehistoric and contact period Mesoamerican cultures.
Elder Robert S. Wood said the United States is a model for the ways religion can flourish within a country that doesn't have a state-run or state-established faith. Elder Wood, of the Seventy, was the concluding speaker Saturday at the annual conference of the Center for Studies on New Religions, an organization based out of Torino, Italy. Academics from around the world attended the conference, which was held for the second time in its 22-year history in Salt Lake City.
