Marketing has always adopted and adapted concepts from other discipline areas. The concept of marketing knowledge describes relationships observed over different circumstances embodied in principles. Marketing knowledge should be helpful to businesses to better understand their customers, allowing business firms to make wise decisions, take successful actions and thus keepg their competitive edge. This study analyzes the marketing knowledge in the Jewelry Industry, located in Guadalajara, Mexico, by analyzing the marketing information system, customer relationship management and the new product development process.
The marketing concept states that firms who first determine and then satisfy customer needs should realize superior performance. Market orientation (MO) operationalizes the marketing concept and is the organization-wide generation of market intelligence, dissemination of the intelligence across departments, and organization-wide responsiveness to it (Kohli and Jaworski, 1990). Market oriented firms should enjoy successful new product programs (Slater and Narver, 1994). However, empirical findings are mixed. This research conceptualizes MO at the departmental level, specifically within cross-functional new product teams. Findings here suggest inter-functional market orientation (IFMO), between marketing and technology groups, is directly related to new product program success.
This paper reports upon an investigation into the procedures and processes employed by small manufacturers to generate perceived useful new product ideas. The inquiry focused upon the sources of ideas, processes for producing these ideas, obstacles which inhibited company personnel in their efforts, and perceived importance of new product ideas. The practices of the respondents were evaluated and suggestions for possible improvement were set forth.

Where a company's new product development process is inferior to its manufacturing process, in terms of defect rate and overall effectiveness, a process called New Product Blueprinting can help its managers to close the gap. This process is a means of upgrading the "fuzzy front end" of new-product development. It builds on the Stage-Gate process and forces an "outside-in" perspective by fully engaging customers in a set of discovery and preference interviews. Guesswork is taken out of product design by using tools such as Market Satisfaction Gap, a measure of customer eagerness for each product attribute. The entire four-phase process-market segmentation, customer interviews, competitive benchmarking and new-product planning-allows the product development team to solidify its business c...
The strategy development and planning process is critical to anticipating the future. In turn, "disciplined execution" is necessary to see that needed infrastructure changes are put into place in a timely manner, and that investments in new strategies, product development and technology are of maximum benefit. This process is called "strategic execution." The most serious impediment to progress is often the lack of organizational alignment around a set of well-developed strategic objectives. This article offers these elements of an aligned process: development and maintenance of a clear corporate vision and strategy on how the CU will achieve continued growth and profitability; and alignment of major divisional and shared resource functions in the pursuit of strategic objectives.
Over the last decade, however, a few consumer product, fashion, and technology businesses have been opening up the product-development process to new ideas hatched outside their walls - from suppliers, independent inventors, and university labs. Executives in a number of companies are now considering the next step in this trend toward more open innovation. The company built a demonstration model of the winning design to exhibit at automotive marketing events and partnered with software developers to get it included in a video game.
