City to test biofuels
Baltimore officials agreed to purchase up to $1.32 million worth of renewable biofuels from Columbia-based New Generation Biofuels Holdings Inc. Under the agreement approved by the Board of Estimates on Wednesday, the city Department of General Services will conduct burn tests of the vegetable-based alternative fuel for one year at three facilities: the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant, Eastern Health Center and the Pimlico Fire and Police Training Facility. The Baltimore City Public School System is conducting a separate biofuels test, burning the fuel at two schools, Franklin Square Elementary and Woodhome Elementary. Earlier tests reduced pollution significantly, officials said.
