A Jackson County jury determined that a neighborhood association was 30 percent liable for a resident's fall on an icy road.
On Nov. 30, 2006, at about 1:30 p.m., Ed Mason was trying to walk across his cul-de-sac in the Woodbridge Homes neighborhood to deliver a newspaper to his neighbor. There had been an ice storm in the area early that morning and the forecast called for heavy snowfall that afternoon. The road in the cul-de-sac was icy, and Mason fell.

A Squirrel Hill family and a neighborhood association on Thursday settled a federal lawsuit in which the couple said the association violated housing laws by refusing to allow them to install a retractable awning to protect their toddler from sunlight.
