Brother sister Faith and Ian Charton grew up in Collingswood, as did Faith's boyfriend Michael Schaeger. Add in the Charltons' neighbor Michael Ziegler and Ian's college friend and roommated Jonah Delso, and you've got a quintet that knows each other pretty intimately, which the band feels is an asset.

  • In a speech on Canadian television touting the health care system of our northern neighbor, liberal filmmaker Michael Moore said, "It's not that you need to become more like Americans, we need to become more Canadian-like." If America mimicked Canadian education policy, however, Mr. Moore might never recover from the shock. Mr. Moore loves Canada's centralized, government-run health care system, but it turns out that a streak of Ronald Reagan runs through Canadian education. When he ran for president in 1980, Mr. Reagan advocated the abolition of the U.S. Department of Education, created by President Carter. Mr. Reagan called the department a "boondoggle," an unwanted federal encroachment on local control of education policy. He would be very pleased that Canada has no federal Education...

  • In Iraq, manmade disasters continued to claim the lives of people in yet more horrifying methods. But we had three elections and the last one attracted a record number of participants. We are on our way to establishing a democracy, even if it looks more like Iran's democracy. Our neocon policymakers will insist on calling it a democracy even at the protestations of Saddam Hussein from his cage in court. He will not be found guilty and will most likely be exiled to a neutral Gulf nation, and may end up the neighbor of Michael Jackson. I expect President Bush to declare yet another victory in Iraq in September 2006, as he begins to pull troops back in large numbers. This victorious pullback will come at the height of Bush's downfall. His descent from grace began this year, and that was pr...
