According to the latest Edelman Annual Trust Barometer Survey, which tracks the attitudes of 1,500 opinion leaders around the world, there has been a change in the information sources that global opinion formers turn to. Another key finding of Edelman's 2005 survey has been the rise of the "average person" as a trusted source of information, replacing, or certainly supplementing, traditional sources. In Europe and Canada, trust in American companies is low, presumably as a result of opinion leaders' perceptions of US culture, values and government. These findings have implications for those involved in developing corporate communication strategies. Given the myriad of information sources that opinion leaders turn to, regular dialogue with a variety of stakeholders is important in all ma...

On a sunny afternoon just a few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being part of a small group that took Gov. Jennifer Granholm on a brief tour of the newly developed Riverfront We ended up at Tri-Centennial State Park harbor, eating lunch with representatives from the Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Nature Trust, the city of Detroit and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. We spoke about the power of partnerships - the partnership between the state, county, city and the Conservancy that is making the transformation of our riverfront into a reality. This partnership will see Michigan's first urban state park on our riverfront and means that we are that much closer to completing the vision of 5½ miles of public access on the Detroit Riverfront It was a wonderful day and it rem...
