As the price of natural gas has plummeted, so have the prices of related stocks.
The dive in demand from recession-battered industrial and manufacturing firms has hammered gas exploration and production companies. Meanwhile, technological advances that make it easier and cheaper to derive natural gas from shale formations have created a supply surplus, said Greg Dahlman, a portfolio manager at Dana Investment Advisors Inc. in Brookfield.

A survey conducted by the American Gas Assn. also indicated that net storage drawdown was at its peak during the first month of 1994 and 1996. Furthermore, the Energy Information Administration also indicated that the average storage levels of working gas is 3.031 Tcf which is greater by 300 Bcf than the total working gas levels of 1996.
