MILLINOCKET, Maine -- Stearns High School's highly publicized effort to attract Chinese students to campus this year may not have paid off enough to address its budget woes, but the addition of another exchange student through a more traditional channel has given the school's girls basketball team a major boost.
Sigrid Koizar, a 5-foot-8 junior point guard from Vienna, Austria, who last August played for her country's under-18 national team at the 2011 FIBA European Division B Championships, has averaged more than 20 points, six steals, five rebounds and four assists a game for the Minutemen this winter.

The National Construction Safety Team (NCST) Advisory Committee (Committee), will hold a meeting via teleconference on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The primary purpose of this meeting is to discuss the NCST Advisory Committee's draft annual report to Congress. A copy of the draft report will be posted on the NCST Advisory Committee's web site at http:// www.nist.gov/el/disasterstudies/ncst/index.cfm. MyKayla Skinner is a 14-year-old gymnast and an LDS high school freshman from Arizona. She recently made the U.S. Gymnastics National Team and is competing for a spot in the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
A Nov. 29 article in the East Valley Tribune described how Skinner does her best to balance the life of a celebrity with that of a normal teenager while she attends Higley High School in Gilbert, Ariz.

From staff reports Angela Ruggiero, a four-time Olympian who attended Choate Rosemary Hall and is considered one of the greatest women's hockey players in history, officially announced her retirement from the U.S. Women's National Team program on Wednesday.
She competed 16 years for the United States and played more games (256) in a Team USA uniform than any other hockey player in U.S. history. In total, she finished her career with the national team having recorded 208 points (67 goals, 141 assists).

Attackman Ryan Powell scored his second goal of the game on a point-blank shot with one minute remaining to lift the United States national team to a 13-12 victory over the Major League All-Stars last night before 11,771 fans at Harvard Stadium in Boston.
Powell, a former All-American at Syracuse, slipped inside a zone defense and beat goalie Jesse Schwartzman (Denver Outlaws) from just outside the crease to cap a furious comeback for Team USA, which scored four unanswered goals in the final 5 minutes, 18 seconds. Goalkeeper Brian Dougherty then made a clutch save with 23 seconds left to preserve the one-goal victory.

Before Moriah Jefferson, Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck share the court for the first time as UConn teammates, the three incoming freshmen will have a chance to team up on the U.S. U-18 national team.

Southwind High rising junior forward Johnathan Williams was already considered one of the nation's top prospects in the class of 2013 with scholarship offers already from Arkansas, Florida, Georgetown, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and the University of Memphis.
Now the 6-9, 210-pound Williams can prove his mettle to the rest of the Western Hemisphere as part of the 2011 USA Basketball Under- 16 National Team.
