The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is proposing to establish a new danger zone in the waters adjacent to Camp Rilea located in Clatsop County, Oregon. The regulation would prohibit any activity by the public within the danger zone during use of weapons training ranges. The new danger zone is necessary to ensure public safety and satisfy the Oregon National Guard operations requirements for small arms training.

There are no big walls or barbed wire, but downtown Charleston sure looks like a military base this week. More than 2,500 National Guard representatives from all across the country plus a few U.S. territories are in Charleston for the 40th Annual Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States National Conference. Rep. Jack Harper, R-Surprise, and Sen. Sylvia Allen, R- Snowflake, are sponsoring HB2070 and SB1495, respectively, identical bills that would allow for a defense force called the Arizona State Guard.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Senate has approved legislation by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to give the National Guard its first seat on the nation's highest military council, the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The bill, which has 71 Senate cosponsors, was added by voice vote Monday night as an amendment to the annual Defense Authorization Bill.
Leahy and Graham are the co-chairs of the Senate's 84-member National Guard Caucus. Peterson Air Force Base's U.S. Northern Command kicked off a weeklong training exercise Tuesday that includes events in Colorado Springs, the Florida Keys, Washington, D.C., and Arizona.
Operation Vigilant Shield is the biggest training exercise of the year for the command and focuses on countering terrorist threats. Air Force, Army and Navy forces will join to combat simulated enemy attacks. The command ordered 300 troops to Florida for the event and another 20 were sent to Arizona.
