The Portsmouth Area Council of Garden Clubs and the city Department of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services teamed up to honor the memory of Adelaide Eberly with a tree dedication in Olde Townes on June 6. Adelaide, who passed away last year, was known throughout the city as "The Tree Lady." For 38 years, she raised thousands of dollars and had more than 4,000 trees planted throughout Portsmouth. Her efforts are the main reason Portsmouth earned a Tree City USA designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation.
