NEW HAVEN -- The big issues of our times -- the nature of democracy, the justification for war and threats to the economy -- were hashed out by more than 100 area citizens Saturday as they came together to listen and learn from each other. Randomly chosen to represent Greater New Haven, their opinions will be tallied, along with those of 1,500 others in 17 communities across the country in a kind of national town meeting underwritten by the Public Broadcasting System.

AUGUSTA, Maine -- Gov. Paul LePage's approval rating has increased by 16 percent since this spring, according to a tracking poll released Wednesday, proof that many Mainers support the direction he's leading the state, his staff said.
TheCritical Insights pollconducted Oct. 18-23 asked 600 likely Maine voters a series of questions about LePage, the economy and other political issues, both national and in-state.
