WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The National Democratic Institute (NDI) and The Carter Center today announced their multinational delegation to observe the January 25 Palestinian Legislative Council elections. The 80-member delegation, organized by NDI in partnership with The Carter Center, is being co-led by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, former Albanian President Rexhep Meidani, and former Spanish Foreign Minister and current member of the Spanish Parliament, Ana Palacio. The delegation includes elected officials, electoral and human rights experts, regional specialists, and political and civic leaders from North America, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On November 25, Moroccans will go to the polls to cast their vote in historic parliamentary elections following the adoption of broad Constitutional reforms in July. This will be the first Parliamentary election in the region since the Arab Spring began. Nearly 4,000 Moroccan, US, and international observers, including the National Democratic Institute and Morocco's National Human Rights Council, are currently working with Moroccan civil society leaders to train and assist in carrying out the elections as well as ensure against irregularities on election day. To date, more than 13.6 million Moroccans have registered to vote.

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- A former general who has promised to uphold civilian rule appears to have easily defeated President Megawati Sukarnoputri in Indonesia's presidential election on Monday, a nationwide sampling of votes indicates.
Gen. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to win 61 percent of the vote, compared with 39 percent for Megawati in the runoff election, according to the survey by the Washington-based National Democratic Institute.
