One of the ancillary goals of economic education programs in transitioning economies is to foster positive attitudes toward market economies. Using a simultaneous equations model to account for the interaction between attitudes and economics knowledge, this research examines the factors that contribute to the pro-market attitudes of teachers participating in economics training programs sponsored by the National Council on Economic Education in Russia, Central Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. Empirical results indicate that training increases the probability participants will possess positive attitudes toward market economies, but that possessing positive attitudes toward free-markets does not necessarily imply greater economics knowledge.

There is no guarantee that Colorado public schoolchildren will ever learn the basics of saving, managing credit card spending or investing in the stock market.
Colorado is one of 12 states that do not require personal finance to be taught in public schools according to the National Council on Economic Education. It's a common sense educational issue, said Robert F. Duvall, president of the council. Too many people think that economics is what you do at the university level.

The levels of financial literacy among students of the three countries, specifically, the U.S., Belarus, and Japan were analyzed to identify similarities and differences in the student performance on a standardized test. The authors generally find that, on the average, Belarusian university students performed better than high school students and Belarusian high school students demonstrated a similar level of achievement with American high school students who did not receive personal finance instruction. Japanese students outperformed both Belarusian and American students with and without personal finance training. There was consistently higher performance on the topic of Earning Income and lower performance on the topic Savings across the three nations.
