Holding a checking or savings account at a bank seems second nature to most people, but thousands of families in the Tri-State rely on check-cashing shops and other, nontraditional sources of financial services. Many of those same families have limited resources and little extra money to pay in fees.
Bank on Evansville is a program aimed at helping those families save money and better manage their personal finances. Patty Avery of Old National Bank is coordinating the program, a partnership of the city of Evansville, the United Way of Southwestern Indiana and a consortium of local financial institutions, including Evansville Commerce Bank, Evansville Teachers' Federal Credit Union, Fifth Third Bank, Heritage Federal Credit Union, Integra Bank and Old National.
