Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra were very well received at the first stop on their Asian tour Thursday night in Beijing. The Pittsburgh Symphony, making its second trip to China after its 1987 debut, performed in The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Built for the 2008 Olympics, the building is known as "The Egg" because of the shape created with its reflection in a man-made lake that surrounds it.

Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will make their first international tour together -- to Asia in May, the symphony announced Friday. Three of the four concerts will be in China, the orchestra's first performances there since 1987. The Asian tour performances start in China on May 14 and 15 in the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. The venue is known as "The Egg" because it is surrounded by a man-made lake. The symphony will make its Shanghai debut on March 15.
