WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ThanksUSA, a charitable effort to mobilize Americans to "thank" our active-duty troops through need-based scholarships, recently distributed 150 scholarship letters worth $3,000 each to the spouses and children of active-duty military. Through a $25,000 contribution from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation, eight scholarships went specifically to students majoring in pharmacy and related fields. UC pharmacy student wins $2,000 scholarship Mariana Torres, a third-year student at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy, has received a National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. More than 450 students competed for various types of NACDS-sponsored scholarships this cycle. Torres is from St. Albans.
High prescription drug prices are a principal component of health- care inflation, but the federal government appears determined to do as little as possible about them. Congress has failed to mandate negotiations by Medicare with pharmaceutical companies for volume prices akin to those achieved by the Veterans Administration, for example.
