I'm not doing this or nothing for [Wayne Williams]," the 55-year-old woman with the careworn face says, slapping her thighs for emphasis. "I don't know if he's innocent or not on those other crimes. All I want is justice for mine.
"'To God almighty, I swear ... I didn't do it,'" [Louis Graham] recalls Williams saying. "And I believe him."
"Wayne wasn't defending himself against two murder charges," says defense attorney Michael Lee Jackson, who is now fighting Williams' case in federal court. "He really had to defend himself against 12. But the state only had to prove two of them."

ATLANTA - Some relatives of victims of the wave of child slayings that terrorized the Atlanta area more than 20 years ago believe the wrong man was blamed for the bulk of the killings and they hope a new police investigation will uncover the real killer.
The DeKalb County police chief has reopened the cases of four of the 29 victims - all black, mostly boys - whose deaths between 1979 and 1981 led to one of the most intensive investigations of the century. Wayne Williams, a freelance cameraman, was convicted of two of the murders. He was blamed for 22 others but was never charged in those deaths.

The man blamed for killing 24 young Atlanta blacks wants a new trial based on his claims that members of the Ku Klux Klan were responsible for the deaths and that evidence used against him was unreliable.
The 146-page federal court filing says Wayne Williams, 45, should be retried because law enforcement officials covered up evidence and because carpet fibers linking him to the crimes wouldn't stand up under scientific scrutiny.
