This study examines how nanotechnology is expected to disrupt most industries. The primary methodology of this study involved comparing the current literature on developments in nanotechnology to the historical development of electricity to assess if the nanotech revolution is reaching a true "critical mass" based on acceleration of technological change today and at other times in history. Data was collected through nonintrusive observation by the second author from small to medium sized cities throughout the five regions of Oklahoma (NE, SE, SW, SE, and Central). It was found that the five regions of the state were responding differently to the advent of nanotechnology. Business leaders in the Central and NE were the most accepting of the needed strategic changes and embraced them open...

An Oklahoma nanotechnology company has taken another step toward raising capital for its development of medical devices that provide targeted delivery of therapeutics.
NanoBioMagnetics Inc. (NBMI) in Edmond develops magnetically responsive nano-particles - the tiniest of particles that can be attached to a therapeutic and drawn to a specific spot in the body needing attention, such as a cancerous area. The company also is using nano-particles for hearing amplification technology.

To date, physicists, chemists, biologists, and engineers, among other scientists, have conducted basic and applied research using nanotechnological approaches to create nanomaterials used in foods, clothing and textiles, building materials, medicine, sports and recreational equipment, defense systems, and information transfer and security systems. Tissue engineering, in which fresh subcellular organelles, whole tissues, and vital organs are created, and self-healing, in which health restoration is guided by nanopharmaceuticals that use endogenous nutrients as building blocks to correct injury and illness, are possible through the self-assembly mechanisms of nanotechnology (Thandavamoorthy, Gopinath, & Ramkumar, 2006). Investigators are exploring nanotechnology applications in home...
