Who says bipartisan cooperation in Washington is dead? The Democrats have decided to borrow a nifty Republican strategy for the autumn congressional elections. They're going to run against Barack Obama. Why not? It's working for the Republicans.
If that's not panic in the streets, it's a reasonable facsimile thereof. Nancy Pelosi, watching her employment prospects for continuing as speaker of the House slipping steadily away, is crying for somebody to do something, anything. For starters, she's demanding that Democratic incumbents in safe districts (if any) more or less suspend their own campaigns and send their money to colleagues who look doomed to having to go home to find real jobs.

WASHINGTON - Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., brought camera crews and dignitaries into her childhood Baltimore neighborhood where a street was being renamed in her honor, while John Boehner, R-Ohio, is bringing his 11 siblings from to Washington for a private reunion. Pelosi was feted at the Italian Embassy as Tony Bennett sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." Her successor was invited to the posh W Hotel for a LeAnn Rimes concert, but is planning to skip it.
Austerity is the theme of Boehner's ascendency to House speaker this week, placing the start of this new Congress in stark contrast to the more lavish festivities that accompanied Pelosi's swearing- in four years ago.

A LOT of Democrats deserve a share of the blame for the shellacking they took this month, beginning with a president who shied away from defending his achievements. Nancy Pelosi, however, should not be high on that list.
Consider, for starters, the No. 1 cause of the Democrats' defeat: the economy. The Democrats, one prominent critique holds, didn't do enough to reduce unemployment and, instead, spent eons working on bills - however commendable they may have been - that weren't directed at ending the recession.

The leaders of an Eastern Panhandle Tea Party group are claiming former state lawmaker and current GOP gubernatorial candidate Larry Faircloth made a racist and sexist remark about President Barack Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Terry and Larrice Craver, the co-founders of We the People of Hampshire County, said the group hosted a candidate forum April 29 in Romney that three GOP candidates attended.
