Much of Danesi's book is dedicated to defining components of the advertising message from a semiotic perspective, with separate chapters devoted to brand names, logos, copy, and creative message elements (as the subtitle promises). For advanced students, however, this book could provide an interesting opportunity to critique and synthesize readings from the semiotic and advertising effects perspectives while illustrating the range of theory that can inform mass communication research.
