MUSCAT, Oman (HedgeWorld.com) - Dow Jones Indexes on Monday [Jan. 14] launched the Dow Jones MSM Index in conjunction with the Oman- based exchange Muscat Securities Market. The index is designed to measure the performance of qualifying companies listed on the MSM, and to provide a broader representation of the overall market than the existing benchmark index, the MSM 30. "We wanted to produce a broader index for the Oman market, and capture the most commonly traded stocks," said a representative for the index provider. The new index will include any exchange-listed stock that actually trades for 10 days in a quarter, or 10 of the approximately 65 trading days in the period.
