The MERS system is described in one of the current House bills as the "sole and exclusive statewide municipal pension pool for local government employees....(It) is vested with the power and duties of investment fiduciary for the investment of all system assets, and ensures that pension assets of each participating municipality and court are separately accounted for and pooled for investment purposes only, thus providing economies of scale that benefit all participating municipalities....
There are two sets of very important words in this description, "participating municipalities" and "pooled for investment purposes."
Clearly we have not participated in this state system and have done OK in not "participating." I think we need to pass on "participating" with a loud and resounding NO.
