Students dressed up as Pilgrims and Native Americans and enjoyed festive foods that they thought might have been served during the first Thanksgiving meal. Parents and grandparents visited the school to see the first harvest festival presented in the classroom.

Munford Elementary School principal Mary Haywood and her team of fifth-grade students have ridden the stock market roller-coaster as they participated in The Commercial Appeal-sponsored Stock Market Game.
Two teams of students, the Cougars and the Golden Cougars, met after school to plan strategies and monitor their investments. The students selected stocks of local interest in which to make their virtual investment of $100,000. Investments in AutoZone and UPS have contributed to the financial success of both teams.

Munford Elementary School is celebrating another successful academic year. The state of Tennessee report card has been released and, once again, MES has earned above-average or exemplary scores in each academic category.
Each quarter, students who have met behavior benchmarks at MES are treated to a special event known as CUBS or Children Understanding the Behavior of Success.

Project EXCELL, an after-school grant-funded program challenges students at Munford Elementary School by providing reading activities and other exciting projects. Homework help is also provided for students. Students in grades 3-5 participate three days a week.
There are also plenty of activities and entertainment through various community resources, including Tae Kwon Do classes.

Munford Elementary School's library partnered with the Education Foundation of Tipton County to bring children's book illustrator Rick Anderson to speak to fourth- and fifth-graders on Nov. 21.
Anderson felt right at home in the classrooms at MES. As he should - he was in classrooms for 25 years teaching art to thousands of children.

Munford Elementary's EXCELL students meet every Monday and Tuesday after school.
The grant-funded program Excelling through Commitment of Education Learning and Leadership is for students in grades 3 -5 , and focuses on team building, community involvement and social and academic growth.

In our kindergarten classes at Munford Elementary School, we have speech inclusion. For each letter of the alphabet, we have a week filled with a variety of activities that serve to ignite and reinforce the desire for each child to learn not only the sound each letter makes, but also to recognize various words and names of objects that have that particular sound.
For the letter "T" we read the story, "When Tilly Turtle Came to Tea." My assistant, Rachel Russell, and I acted out the story for the children. We then had a tea party in each classroom. The girls made bonnets and the boys made top hats. Good manners were discussed prior to our tea party.
