PICKERINGTON, Ohio, Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announced today its AMA Motorcyclist of the Year. Awarded annually, the AMA Motorcyclist of the Year designation recognizes the person(s) who has had the most profound impact on the world of motorcycling, for better or worse, in the previous 12 months.
For 2010, that distinction belongs to outgoing California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose signature on a controversial law will have far-reaching and potentially harmful effects on the motorcycling community nationwide.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio, March 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) told a key U.S. House committee that it opposes a bill to designate 850,000 acres in Colorado as federally protected Wilderness because, among other reasons, the public land contains dams, power lines, bridges and other structures.
The AMA noted its opposition in a formal letter dated March 10 to the U.S. House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands that will be part of the committee report for the bill -- H.R. 4289, the Colorado Wilderness Act of 2009. The AMA also complained that the measure would designate the land as Wilderness without any input from local elected officials and affected user groups.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio, May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Motorcyclist fatalities for 2011 will be about the same as 2010, according to a preliminary report released on May 22 by the Governors Highway Safety Association, the American Motorcyclist Association reports.
Based on preliminary data, the GHSA reports that fatalities decreased by 1.67 percent during the first nine months of 2011. However, the association projects the final tally will be very close to the 4,502 fatalities reported for 2010. That figure is a slight increase over the number of fatalities reported for 2009 (4,469), which represented a dramatic 16 percent decline from 2008.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio, Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than a dozen federal lawmakers are asking the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to delay enforcement of the so-called lead law that effectively bans the sale of kid-sized dirtbikes and all- terrain vehicles (ATVs), the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports.
Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) drafted the letter and circulated it for other lawmakers to sign before sending it to the CPSC.
