Gasoline taxes in West Virginia will total nearly 50 cents per gallon beginning Jan. 1, when the state hikes one of its motor fuel taxes by 4 1/2 cents, Tax Commissioner Virgil Helton announced.
Drawn from average wholesale prices, the scheduled rate change will increase that tax from 6.5 cents to 11 cents per gallon. The total per-gallon cost of state and federal taxes on gasoline will rise to 49.9 cents.
