Companies were just bringing folks in and dumping them in Fox Chapel. So they'd be getting their hair cut at Phillip Pelusi, and they'd have no connection to the city and its Black community," said [Tamiko Stanley]. "They wouldn't know the restaurants, churches or entertainment spots. So other than work, they're isolated-and ready to leave.
"The visitors' bureau, VisitPittsburgh, wasn't marketing at the HBCUs," said [Dina Clark]. "And if you looked at their marketing materials, there is nothing in there about Black life in the city-no New Pittsburgh Courier, for instance. So we talked with them and they instantly became partners in Urban Connect."

Proverbs 16:2 reads, "All a man's ways seem innocent to him but motives are weighed by the Lord
Scripture teaches us to put our energy into pleasing God instead of pleasing others. Proverbs 16:7 reads, "When a man's ways are pleasing to the Lord he makes even his enemies live at peace with him."
With Christ as our foundation, God will reward us in heaven not for what we do, but for our right motives. The Corinthian church was filled with those whose work was "wood, hay, and straw" (3:12). Its members were immature, insensitive to one another, and vulnerable to wrong doctrine (3:1-4), and their motives were improper.

With tensions growing, the county executive and the county comptroller took Erie County's state-appointed control board to court Thursday in advance of today's control board vote on whether to exert more power over county finances.
While the State Supreme Court event appears to be unnecessary, it shows that Chris Collins and Mark C. Poloncarz harbor suspicions about the board's motives as members prepare to meet at 2 p.m. today in the Central Library.

True, GOP officials dutifully declared that [Alan Keyes]' race was not a factor in his selection. According to a Chicago Sun-Times report, one top state party official said, "It just turned out to be that way. We don't look at color the way the Democrats do. We look at the candidates and where they stand on the issues...
The second is that Keyes, a prominent conservative activist who's twice run for president, has never lived in Illinois. He lives in Maryland, where in the 1980s and 1990s he twice ran for U.S. Senate, garnering only 29 and 38 percent of the vote, respectively, in those contests. Keyes' non-residency in Illinois is legal. In fact, he doesn't have to move into Illinois until Nov. 2, Election Day, itself.
Those facts have produced widespread cynicism about the motives of ...

I WANTED TO RESPOND to a March 2 letter The letter contains factual errors, and it called into question my motives in introducing a budget amendment to remove state funding from Planned Parenthood.
It should be noted that Gov. Kaine stripped abstinence program funding from the budget, which is targeted at the same audience as the Planned Parenthood funding, and the writer seemed to have no problem with that .
