Wytheville businessman Billy Ashworth will be the Republican candidate opposing likely Democrat contender Benny Keister of Dublin in the House of Delegates race in the newly formed 6th District. Ashworth won the GOP candidacy over Morgan Morris, who works at a Dublin-based communications company, at a mass meeting Tuesday night at Wytheville Community College.
The last race in Central Illinois has finally been decided - three weeks after the election - with the flip of a coin by McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael. With Charles Morris and Linda Hagar tied at 66 votes apiece, an 1896 Morgan silver dollar determined that Morris would remain on the Cheney's Grove Library Board.
July 11, 1926 - June 18, 2011 Glenn was born into the Edward (d. 1972) and Ora (d. 1980) Paulson family in 1926, while they were living in Belma, WA (near Mabton,WA). The family included 2 brothers and 4 sisters. (Laverna Gray d. 2007, Hazel Hansen d. 2010, Bernadine Morgan, Margaret Morris, Delmer Paulson d. 2010, and David Paulson.) Life in a post depression family was good but required commitment from the entire family to sustain their well being. Glenn related stories of farm chores, hard work, long walks and the acquisition of a bicycle. His enjoyment included running, basketball and fishing. The call to arms for WWII pushed Glenn, at 17, with his parents permission, to quit high school prior to graduation and enlist in the Navy.
