The Founding Fathers, tempered by years of repression and lies from their former British leaders, had a unique understanding of press freedom. The natural instinct of every person or organization in authority is to suppress criticism, and yet they understood that thoughts, ideas and rumors can rise or fall only if confronted in a free exchange with other thoughts, ideas and rumors.
