  • MONTEBELLO - With state transit funding slashed and a depleted reserve, the city's Transportation Department needs more money. At a special meeting today the City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, will vote on awarding the Transit Department a $2 million loan to balance its 2008-09 budget.

  • Police arrested a Whittier man Friday on suspicion of stabbing another man during a fight on a Montebello Transit bus, authorities said. Ralph Portugal, 45, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Whittier police Lt. Carlos Solorza said.

  • The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved funding to purchase two natural gas-powered, heavy duty shuttle buses for the Sunshine Shuttle Service in South Whittier. The buses are expected to be built and in operation by 2012.South Whittier's Sunshine Shuttle Service connects to transit lines operated by Metro, the cities of Montebello and Norwalk, and the county's Los Nietos Shuttle.

  • MONTEBELLO - A Montebello Transit bus collided with a car Wednesday, officials said, injuring five bus passengers and the driver of the other car. The crash occurred about 4 p.m. at Whittier Boulevard and Bluff Road, Montebello police Lt. Greg Sells said.
