The kids today are just like kids have always been. They live in a perfect world. They don't see the 'white bathrooms', the 'Colored bathrooms,' like we saw when I was growing up," said Mays Middle School Principal Kenneth S. Cooper, a 1966 graduate of Palmetto Senior High School.
"There's Peggy Dean. She worked for Congresswoman Carrie Meek. Former State Rep. Ed Bullard graduated from [Polly Tanner Mays]. Dennis Davis and Robert Stinson retired as principals," Cooper said, while pointing that [William Johnson] was called "Buster" by schoolmates.
"I really didn't have any idea about the importance of the Brown v. Board of Education decision by the Supreme Court during those days," Johnson said. "When you don't know any better you make the best of what you have.
