A St. Louis factory worker has settled a workers' compensation case with his former employer for nearly $500,000 after a 2008 forklift accident left him with a crushed skull and long-term brain damage, his attorney said.
Maintenance worker Gary Schneider, of House Springs, filed a claim for permanent total disability benefits with the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. A dislodged forklift prong struck him on the head in a May 27, 2008, accident at Paolo Products, said plaintiff's attorney Matthew Nagel, of Schultz & Myers. A St. Louis-based company, Paolo provides heat treating, brazing and metal finishing services.

A Fulton-based construction company has filed two more lawsuits in its ongoing battle with the Missouri Department of Labor over prevailing wage practices.
Shepherd's Co. on Wednesday filed a federal suit against Larry Rebman, director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, and Carla Buschjost, director of the department's Division of Labor Standards. Both are defendants in their official capacities and individually.
