The class of 2006 is filled with people determined to use their knowledge to revitalize the gulf coast. It's full of people determined to realize dreams. Today I met Tracy Malosh, and she's graduating with a degree in nursing. Tracy was born nearby at Keesler Air Force Base, and she has lived in this part of the country for her whole life. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles, 13 years ago, and they have three children who, by the way, are proudly watching their mom graduate today.

• Tennessee Welcomes 7 in Time for Spring

KNOXVILLE - Seven athletes have enrolled at Tennessee for the spring and are expected to participate in the Volunteers' spring practices. The midterm enrollees include junior defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore. The Norco, La., native played at Alabama for two seasons before transferring to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and has two years of eligibility remaining.

After studying at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where she edited the school newspaper and was inducted into the Hall of Fame, Lea earned an English degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1991, followed by a master's degree in English from Southern Miss in 1993. At home with a baby in 2000, Lea was helping a friend find a job on Monster.com when she ran across an ad seeking candidates for the position of vice president of strategic communications for the Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA).

PRESQUE ISLE - Northern Maine Community College has a new sister college of sorts after students and staff decided to do something to help survivors of recent hurricanes. NMCC "adopted" Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Miss., in an effort to provide long-term help to people affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

• Having a Sense of Community

The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio (GCCDS), an outreach program of Mississippi State University's (MSU's) College of Architecture, Art + Design, has had a major influence on the rebuilding of the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. Most of the homes GCCDS has provided assistance with are located in East Biloxi, although work has been done in other communities, as well. Because of several sources of outside funding, the GCCDS has been able to provide professional services to low-income families at no cost to the homeowner.
