I was disappointed when I read the article about the press release from the Sutherland Institute regarding Salt Lake City's efforts to pass a nondiscrimination ordinance with protections for sexual orientation and gender identity. I visited Sutherland's Web site and read the full press release. It reads, in part, "The experiences of other states, namely California, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont, prove that the inclusion of terms such as 'sexual orientation' and 'gender identity' in state and local laws is used, ultimately, to denigrate the meaning of marriage.
