As a retired soldier and a reserve soldier, I hope to see some senior noncommissioned officers as well as some captains, majors and colonels being court-martialed for the reported abuses of detainees in Iraq. Lowly enlisted personnel do not take this kind of personal initiative without the leadership being aware.
Soldiers at every level are required to question, report and refuse to carry out unlawful orders. I know such training is included in enlisted basic training and in cadet military instruction, since I was a senior instructor-trainer at both levels.
