Jacoby Ellsbury is scheduled to return to Hadlock Field today, with Red Sox teammate Mike Cameron alongside.
But the Portland Sea Dogs had to make do without any major leaguers Wednesday night. They could have used the help.

Of course [Mike Cameron]'s future with the Mets will likely depend on what he does the next couple of months. With leftfielder Cliff Floyd off to a hot start and Carlos Beltran in center, that leaves just one outfield position. And Cameron, who fell out of favor with the fans and management after his slow start last season and making his misgivings about moving to right publicly known, could be the odd man out. With just one year remaining on his three-year $22 million deal, Cameron is ideal trade bait. And there's no doubt that the Mets, who are still looking for pitching help, realize he could generate interest from a number of teams.

Cameron moving to leadoff spot?
The sooner the better, we say. After being shut out in back-to- back games in Atlanta this past week, then scoring just one run against the Marlins on Friday night - saved only by Pedro Martinez's 10-strikeout performance - the Mets need to rethink their lineup, possibly moving right fielder Mike Cameron to the leadoff slot.

With 265 career home runs to his credit, Mike Cameron has a pretty good idea when he has crushed a baseball. He blasted one Monday in Minnesota, but Twins centerfielder Denard Span was able to back up against the wall and make a catch.
I hit it 409 (feet), whatever it was," Cameron said. "That's all I've got.

NEW YORK -- Baseball's hot stove started sizzling Monday, with Roy Halladay, John Lackey, Hideki Matsui and Mike Cameron all set to switch teams.
The Phillies have a tentative agreement to acquire Halladay in a trade with Toronto, and the former Cy Young Award winner was in Philadelphia on Monday for a physical required to complete the deal. Philadelphia also was discussing a trade that would send Cliff Lee, another former Cy Young winner, to Seattle.

This is it for the Red Sox, starting this weekend in New York and then heading to Toronto and Texas. They clearly look like a third wheel in the American League East behind the Yankees and Rays, who both look postseason-worthy. It's actually quite an accomplishment for the Sox to be floating around 15 games over .500 given all their injury troubles.
Kevin Youkilis suffered a thumb injury last week against Cleveland that will knock him out for the season. Josh Beckett has spent time on the disabled list. So did Mike Lowell, whom the Sox seemed bent on trading until a triumphant return Tuesday night that included a home run in his first at-bat. Dustin Pedroia has been out, Hideki Okajima was DL bound on Friday and Mike Cameron has been a season-long injury bust.

MILWAUKEE - Mike Cameron homered and Yovani Gallardo won his fifth game as the Brewers swept the three-game series from the Reds.
It wasn't quite the gem Gallardo (5-2) threw on Monday against St. Louis when the right-hander had a no-hitter going into the sixth and finished allowing two hits in eight shutout innings, but he was good enough against Cincinnati.
