Be clear, our competitors from other states and nations around the world will be aggressively pursuing every trade advantage they can muster with Asia and China. Michigan leaders need to show their intent to adapt to the changing global "flat world." We need every advantage to help tilt the world in Michigan's direction.
* Gov. Jennifer Granholm could assemble a "Silk Route Team" of business, labor, political, community and civic leaders to develop a comprehensive Asia/China strategy. None exists today. Next the team was off to welcome Mordechai Vanunu to freedom. Vanunu is a former Israeli nuclear technician who publicly exposed Israel's possession of nuclear weapons. When Israel learned of this, he was kidnapped by Mossad (although upon release Vanunu claimed it was the CIA), tried in secret, and sentenced to eighteen years' detention. [Kim Redigan] described a chaotic scene of settlers threatening a Jack Ruby-like killing of Vanunu. But seeing Vanunu flashing the victory sign made the whole crowd cheer.
