Taking Panera Bread of Iowa to court over canister donations was a matter of principle, according to one Maria House leader.

Opening Doors kicks off a public fundraising campaign Thursday, July 21, at an event that also marks more than a decade of providing shelter to the homeless.
When I started, I loved the mission (of Opening Doors) on paper - to see the mission fulfilled is the most gratifying thing," said Michelle Brown, who has served as Opening Doors' executive director since April 2000. Youth and inexperience factored into the Mercy softball team's slow start this season. The Tigers lost their first two games, and three of their first four, but they have since rattled off seven straight wins. Mercy (8-3) currently sits atop of the Southern Connecticut Conference Quinnipiac Division.
The Tigers are without an active senior. The team's only senior, first baseman Michelle Brown, tore her anterior cruciate ligament in a preseason scrimmage. She recently had surgery and her high school career is finished.
