The Kiwanis Club of Putnam County is organizing the first Taste of Putnam from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the large shelter at Valley Park in Hurricane. The event, which is a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club, will feature food specialties from local restaurants and chefs. Visitors to Taste of Putnam purchase tickets for 50 cents each, which are then redeemable at the various vendors booths for sample-size dishes. The vendors price their sample dishes at a certain number of tickets, said Kiwanis Club President Debbie Frost. We have several restaurants that are helping us out, Frost said. SANDY -- There aren't many golfers larger than Michael Putnam. At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, he towers over most of his fellow competitors and looks like he could be playing tight end on Sundays, rather than professional golf.
Not only does Putnam stand taller than his fellow golfers, he's also looking down on the competition at the halfway point of the Nationwide Tour's Utah Championship. Putnam rode a hot putter in firing his second straight 5-under-par 66 Friday afternoon to take a one-shot lead after two rounds of the $550,000 tournament.
