Families of the Utah State University students who died and were injured in a 2005 van crash have settled their federal lawsuit against the maker of the van, Chrysler LLC, for an undisclosed amount.
Michael Palese, a Chrysler spokesman, says the agreement was reached just before Christmas and has yet to be filed in U.S. District Court.

Den Black, a retired General Motors Corp. engineering executive, says he's worried and angry. The government-supported automaker is going bankrupt, he says, and he's sure some of his retirement pay will go down with it.
This is going to wreck us," said Black, 62, speaking of GM retirees. "These pledges from our companies are now garbage.

The owners of Century Motor Corp. in Wentzville are suing Chrysler Group, just weeks after the dealership prevailed in its arbitration hearing against the automaker.
Century Motor lost its Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealership a year ago, when the automaker shut down almost 800 dealerships as part of its bankruptcy plan. Even though it won its arbitration in May, Century Motor is taking Chrysler to court because of the "commercially unreasonable" requirements the automaker is placing on the dealership to reopen, said Kevin Mock, whose father and uncle own the dealership. Kevin worked as Century's sales manager, and has become the business's spokesman.

Colorado regulators have issued Phil Long Dealerships a temporary license to reopen a Chrysler and Jeep location in the Denver area that closed after the Chrysler terminated its franchise in mid-2009 as part of a restructuring in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
The Colorado Motor Vehicle Dealer Licensing Board approved the 120-day license because it concluded, after consulting with the Colorado Attorney General's Office, that Long "met the minimum qualifications required under state law," said Mark Couch, a spokesman for the Colorado Department of Revenue, the state agency over the board. Long must sign a sales and service agreement with Chrysler to get a permanent license.

She reviewed our information, gave me an ignorant and angry look and stated, 'Where did (you) come from? (You're) a cradle rocker,' and she looked at my wife and said, 'You shouldn't be married," said Michael.
If the comments were meant to be a joke, or as a compliment to Mrs. Harris, the couple says their reactions showed how seriously the words were taken. Michael said as he stared at the associate in shocked silence, [Kaylee Harris], who is coping with a history of sexual abuse, ran from the showroom in tears. Following Kaylee's departure, Michael says the saleswoman continued her comments with, "I'd like to rob cradles with a lot of people from the showroom.
"People shouldn't be treated that way if they're going to buy a car," said Kaylee. "I'm so hurt, it's hard to explain."

Depending on which side you ask, a recent Court of Appeals opinion either ushered in a new era of consumer protection, or plumbed a new low in frivolous litigation.
The opinion in Lloyd v. GM et al. reinstated a suit against automakers over allegedly defective seatbacks, even though the plaintiffs sustained no physical injuries. The top court held that the potential injury - death or paralysis - was so great and the probability of injury so high that the owners could sue under a purely economic loss theory.
