The Virginian-Pilot It pains us to say this, but bacon is out - at least as a hot food trend. You'll still find it in everything from appetizers to desserts - not to mention breakfasts - but it's not the buzz item it used to be. Republicans completed a complete takeover of the council Tuesday, defeating outspoken incumbent Democrat Robert Rosenblatt in a closely contested election. Three Republicans, including incumbent Jeff Bader, each won council seats, defeating three Democrats. The top vote-getter was Republican Kenneth L. Baum, who received 1,189. Bader got 1,130, and Michael Struk, a Republican who was vying for an unexpired two-year term, received 1,124.

VIRGINIA BEACH - On April 26, 2007, , 71, passed away at Bayside Healthcare Center. The son of Forrest O. and Virginia Swoope Baum, Glenn was born and grew up in the Blackwater area of Virginia Beach. Glenn served in the U.S. Army and was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration of which he retired after 31 years of service. He was a faithful member of Haygood United Methodist Church. Glenn was a wonderful husband and father and absolutely adored his grandchildren. He had a very generous spirit and will be dearly missed, but always remembered by family and friends. His family includes his loving wife of almost 48 years, Shirley Baum of Virginia Beach; his daughter, Stephanie B. Peacock and her husband Philip of Haymarket, Va.; his son, Michael G. PASADENA - The Ice House is holding a benefit for foster children at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at 24 N. Mentor Ave., Pasadena. The show will feature Michael Pace, Denny Johnston, Fritz Coleman, Bruce Baum and Chris Titus, with money going to the Hillsides organization. Hillsides assists children in foster care with its residential treatment center, as well as at-risk children and their families with its treatment center.
