Madison voters will soon be put to a test, perhaps one of the more important ones they've faced in recent years. On April 6, they'll get to decide who will fill an open seat on the Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education during its biggest financial crisis. It's apt, then, that the opposing candidates - James Howard arid Tom Farley - also be put to the test. We gave them a series of essay questions on a range of pertinent topics, fi-om how they'd cut the school budget to challenges they've faced with their own children in Madison schools. What's the biggest challenge you've faced with your children in Madison's schools, and how was it resolved?
Wauwatosa The state announced Friday that it has paid Milwaukee County $249,000 for 67 acres on the County Grounds, including a 50- acre mature hardwood forest, for a proposed forestry education center. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District will go door-to-door in part of Wauwatosa next week to warn residents of the impending destruction of up to 400 trees in Hart Park as many as one-third of the trees there as part of a flood-control project.

George Washington Middle School, in Dubuque, received the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Green Vision Education Award this summer. Washington is the second Dubuque Community School District school to receive the Green Vision Award.
