I know a bit about hospitals, at least from the perspective of a patient. For 36 years I have suffered from multiple painful and debilitating illnesses. I have been treated dozens of times by at least ten hospitals in four different states and by innumerable physicians in emergency rooms, for sometimes extended hospitalization, for extensive tests, and for several different operations and procedures. For the last few years, I have been treated by the Memorial Hospital Health and Wellness Clinic for Diabetes. A little over a month ago, I began treatment in Memorial's Coordinated Care Center for a recently discovered immune deficiency.

In a hectic work environment without effective guidance to reach any goals to decrease errors is leading Sunny View Memorial Hospital down a path of destruction and failure. This case, which focuses on the local and global implications of poor management in a hospital pharmacy setting provides insight into the utility of proper management techniques in the healthcare system to enhance patient safety. Real life medication errors that have occurred in a hospital are included to further stress the importance of proper management, organization, and personnel unity and cooperation that are necessary to prevent both employee dissatisfaction and patient emergencies. FAIRFIELD, Ill. -- A bequest from the estate of a longtime Southern Illinois judge will fund scholarships for local medical students and nursing students who commit to practice medicine in Wayne County, Ill.
The estate of the late Judge Harry L. Ziegler has donated $278,000 to Fairfield Memorial Hospital to aid in its physician recruitment program. Recipients of scholarships through the Ziegler Estate must agree to practice medicine in Wayne County for at least three years after graduating from their respective medical programs.
