MATOACA - The Appomattox River Water Authority will hold a special meeting on Wednesday to consider lowering water restrictions in the localities it serves from "emergency" to "mandatory.
In a press release issued Monday afternoon, the authority said its board met last Thursday and voted to ask the state Department of Environmental Quality to continue to exempt it from a requirement to release millions of gallons of water a day into the Appomattox River, even if ARWA lowers the level of its restrictions.

Michelle T. Bradley, assistant superintendent for learning and assessment, is expected to be appointed Lockport's next school superintendent, The Buffalo News learned Monday.
Bradley will be be named to succeed the retiring Terry Ann Carbone at Wednesday's Board of Education meeting, according to sources who could not speak for attribution because the appointment was meant to be confidential.

WHITTIER - City staff is proposing higher water rates, budget cuts and a delay of police pay increases to erase a $3.1 million shortfall in the city's $61.5 million general fund budget.
The City Council will take its final look at the budget in a special 5 p.m. Wednesday meeting and is expected to approve it at its regular June 22 meeting.
