  • Music: Meet Meat Loaf Meatloaf never goes out of style.

  • Pity the album-oriented rocker in an iTunes world. But don't pity Meat Loaf. He knew what he was doing when he began work on his ambitious last album, 2010's "Hang Cool Teddy Bear." Specifically, he knew that if you're going to create a concept album in an age of singles, you'd better have a marketing concept as well.

  • Usually rock stars like to leave audiences breathless. Singer Meat Loaf blamed an asthma attack for his collapse last night during a show at the Trib Total Media Amphitheatre at Station Square.

  • For Meat Loaf, this is it. Once he's done touring for "Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster is Loose" sometime late next year, the singer says he'll retire to that big rock-star heaven in the sky. "I just don't like packing the suitcases," he says during a recent teleconference. "I love going on stage, when everything is clicking and we're all healthy and everything is working. I enjoy that a lot. It's not so much standing there and letting the audience applaud for you, it's more about self-fulfillment, and, in my case, the search for the Holy Grail. I'm always looking for the best show ever. That's what I'm looking for. I'm looking for perfection, and the older you get, the harder it gets. But at the age of 59, it seems like Meat is ready to get out of the frying pan and back in the fire ...

  • MEAT LOAF WANTS TO DIE ONSTAGE Meat Loaf, who has passed out onstage or backstage several times recently, said on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" that he literally would not mind dying on stage. "I take the stage as if it's the last thing I'm ever going to do and that's how I perform every night... it's probably (taught me) to slow down a little bit. I go out on the stage as if it's the last thing I'll ever do. And that's what I've always said - if I'm going out, I'm going out on stage." He's not slowing down offstage, either. The 63-year-old Loaf has three albums currently in the works. He describes "Hell in a Handbasket," that comes out in February as his most personal record. "It's about how I feel the world's gone to hell in a handbasket," he explained to Billboard. "It's really the fi...

  • In a large skillet over medium high heat, heat the olive oil. Saute the onions until translucent, about 8 minutes. Add the mushrooms and garlic and cook over medium high heat for 3 or 5 minutes. Add the cream, oregano, thyme, salt and pepper. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Cool vegetable mixture. In large bowl, combine the beef, pork, veal and vegetable mixture. Stir in the egg. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  • THE DEEP DISH Be aware that ideology affects cuisine. Consider that conservatives prefer meat loaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, McDonald's french fries, soft tacos, deep-dish pizza and grape jelly. Correspondingly, liberals prefer chicken curry with vegetable biranyi, bistro-style fries, crunchy tacos, thin- crust pizza and strawberry jelly.

  • Meat Loaf -- "Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster is Loose" (Virgin): Oh, Meat Loaf would do anything for cash. Oh, he would do anything for cash, especially throwing the name "Bat Out Of Hell" on a record totally not deserving. Oh, he would do that. Pardon the lame joke, but the term "lame joke" is exactly what to call "Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose." On all previous "Bats," right under the title, it read, "Songs by Jim Steinman." The most telling part of "Bat III" is how that tag isn't anywhere on the package. Because of a court order, Steinman, the man probably more responsible than Meat Loaf himself for the artist's success, can't comment on the record. He doesn't need to, though, because the songs tell the whole story. Made up of six recycled Steinman songs and a host of o...

  • To his fans, Meat Loaf is one of the most dramatic and memorable singers in rock. Not bad for a guy who doesn't consider himself a singer.
